Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid prodrugs have the structure of Formula (IA): or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein Rg is hydrogen or C1-3 alkyl; and Rh and Rf are independently hydrogen or C1-3 alkyl. Following oral administration, the gamma-hydroxybutyric acid prodrugs release gamma¼ hydroxybutyric acid into the systemic circulation. The gamma-hydroxybutyric acid prodrugs and pharmaceutical compositions thereof are useful in treating sleep disorders such as narcolepsy.
