The present invention relates to a nitrogen monoxide delivery system, comprising a gas cylinder containing nitrogen dioxide in air, said system converting nitrogen dioxide into nitrogen monoxide and using a surfactant material, such as silica gel, coated with an aqueous solution of antioxidant, such as ascorbic acid. This nitric oxide delivery system can be used for the production of therapeutic gas comprising nitric oxide for the purpose of administering the therapeutic gas to a mammal.
