Disclosed is a method for commercially producing a 1,2-dihydropyridine-2-one compound represented by the following formula (III) (wherein the ring A and ring B are as defined below and the ring C represents an optionally substituted phenyl group) with high yield and high purity by reacting a compound represented by the following formula (I) (wherein the ring A represents an optionally substituted 2-pyridyl group, the ring B represents an optionally substituted phenyl group, and X represents a leaving group) with a boronic acid derivative in the presence of a palladium compound, a copper compound, a phosphorus compound and a base.
