The invention relates to a drug carrier which comprises particles of lipid or li pid-like (lipoid) material or mixtures thereof which have a diameter of 10 nm to 10 .mu.m and whic h are solid at room temperature. On account of its solid core, the drug carrier allows a contro llable liberation of active substances over a longer period of time and the incorporation of hydro philous medicinal agents into the solid core. Furthermore, the drug carrier makes a rela tively quick degrading possible at which no toxic by-products are produced.
