Mechanism of action

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that acts as a hormone precursor. After absorption, it is converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D and then in the kidneys to the active form, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, which binds to vitamin D receptors to enhance intestinal calcium absorption, regulate bone mineralization, and modulate immune function.
