Plegisol In Plastic Container (Calcium Chloride)
Source of water and electrolytes regulating fluid balance, osmotic pressure, acid-base equilibrium, and neuromuscular function.
Ringer's Injection is an electrolyte replacement solution indicated for adults and pediatric patients as a source of water and electrolytes. It is contraindicated in neonates receiving ceftriaxone and in patients with hypersensitivity. Significant risks include fatal ceftriaxone-calcium precipitation in neonates and severe electrolyte imbalances with concomitant medications affecting potassium, sodium, and calcium. Close monitoring of electrolyte concentrations is essential when used with drugs affecting fluid and electrolyte balance.

Mechanism of action
Ringer's Injection provides sodium, potassium, chloride, and calcium to maintain extracellular and intracellular fluid balance. Sodium functions primarily in control of water distribution, fluid balance, and osmotic pressure of body fluids, while also regulating acid-base equilibrium with chloride and bicarbonate. Potassium, the principal intracellular cation, participates in carbohydrate utilization and protein synthesis and is critical for nerve conduction and muscle contraction, particularly cardiac function. Calcium provides the structural framework of bones and teeth and is essential for blood clotting, normal cardiac function, and regulation of neuromuscular irritability in its ionized form.
