Tenofovir (TDF)
Tenofovir (TDF) is a Nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NtRTI) Small molecule drug developed by French National Agency for Research on AIDS and Viral Hepatitis. It is currently FDA-approved for HIV-1 infection (treatment and prevention), Chronic hepatitis B infection. Also known as: Viread.
Tenofovir is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor that blocks HIV and hepatitis B virus replication by inhibiting the viral reverse transcriptase enzyme.
Tenofovir (TDF) is a small molecule inhibitor that targets human immunodeficiency virus type 1 reverse transcriptase. It is used in combination with other medications, such as lamivudine, efavirenz, and lopinavir/ritonavir, to treat conditions including HIV infections, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, and hepatitis B virus.

Mechanism of action
Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) is a prodrug that is converted to tenofovir in the body, where it is further phosphorylated to its active form. The active metabolite inhibits HIV reverse transcriptase and hepatitis B polymerase by competing with natural nucleotides and causing chain termination during viral DNA synthesis. This prevents the virus from replicating and establishing persistent infection.
