Mechanism of action
Telbivudine, lamivudine, adefovir, and entecavir are antiviral agents that inhibit hepatitis B virus (HBV) reverse transcriptase, preventing viral DNA synthesis and replication. They are nucleoside or nucleotide analogues that get incorporated into the growing viral DNA chain, causing chain termination. These agents reduce HBV viral load and improve liver function in chronic hepatitis B patients.
