Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 3
Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 3 is a Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine Biologic drug developed by University of Oxford. It is currently FDA-approved for Prevention of invasive pneumococcal disease caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 3, Prevention of pneumococcal pneumonia caused by serotype 3. Also known as: SPN3, pneumococcus serotype 3.
This is a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine containing serotype 3 polysaccharide antigen conjugated to a protein carrier to stimulate immune response against Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 3 infection.
Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 3 is a target of polysaccharide conjugated to Corynebacterium diphtheriae CRM197 vaccine antigen. This vaccine component is used in vaccines such as Prevenar, Prevenar 13, and Prevenar 20, which are indicated for conditions including Pneumococcal Infections.

Mechanism of action
The vaccine works by presenting the serotype 3 capsular polysaccharide antigen conjugated to a protein carrier (typically CRM197 or similar), which enhances T-cell dependent immune responses. This stimulates both antibody production and cellular immunity against S. pneumoniae serotype 3, providing protection against invasive pneumococcal disease caused by this serotype.
