Mechanism of action
Standard oxygen therapy delivers supplemental oxygen to patients with hypoxemia or respiratory insufficiency, restoring adequate oxygen saturation in the bloodstream and improving tissue perfusion. This supports aerobic cellular respiration and prevents the complications of hypoxia across multiple organ systems.
Approved indications
- Hypoxemia and respiratory insufficiency
- Acute and chronic hypoxic conditions requiring oxygen supplementation
Common side effects
- Oxygen toxicity (with prolonged high-concentration exposure)
- Drying of mucous membranes
- Absorption atelectasis
- Hyperoxia-related complications
