Mechanism of action

Sunscreens contain active ingredients (organic or inorganic) that absorb UV-A and UV-B radiation and convert it to heat, or mineral filters that reflect and scatter UV rays. This prevents UV radiation from penetrating the skin and causing DNA damage, sunburn, and long-term photodamage including skin cancer risk and photoaging.
