Mechanism of action
S-1 is a prodrug of 5-fluorouracil that inhibits thymidylate synthase and incorporates into DNA/RNA, while oxaliplatin is a platinum agent that forms DNA cross-links. Together, they provide synergistic cytotoxic effects against rapidly dividing cancer cells. This combination is commonly used in gastric and colorectal cancers.
