Mechanism of action
Sodium picosulphate is a prodrug converted by colonic bacteria into bis-(p-hydroxyphenyl)-pyridyl-methane, which stimulates colonic nerves to increase peristalsis. Magnesium citrate functions as an osmotic agent, retaining water in the intestinal lumen to soften stool and promote bowel evacuation. Together, these agents provide rapid and effective bowel cleansing.
