Mechanism of action

Sodium picosulphate is a prodrug converted by colonic bacteria to bis-(p-hydroxyphenyl)-pyridyl-methane, which stimulates colonic peristalsis and increases intraluminal fluid volume. Magnesium citrate acts as an osmotic agent, drawing water into the intestinal lumen to soften stool and promote evacuation. Together, these agents produce rapid bowel cleansing.
