Mechanism of action
Ropivacaine is an amide-type local anesthetic that reversibly inhibits sodium influx through voltage-gated sodium channels in nerve cell membranes. This prevents depolarization and action potential generation in sensory and motor nerves. When administered via PENG (Pericapsular Nerve Group) block, it anesthetizes the nerves supplying the hip joint capsule, providing perioperative analgesia for hip surgery.
