Mechanism of action
By binding to the CD20 antigen on the surface of B cells, rituximab triggers cell-mediated cytotoxicity and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity, leading to the depletion of B cells. This mechanism is particularly effective in treating B-cell lymphomas and autoimmune diseases.
