Mechanism of action
Rabies vaccines contain inactivated or attenuated rabies virus antigens that trigger both humoral (antibody) and cell-mediated immune responses. This allows the body to recognize and neutralize rabies virus before it reaches the central nervous system, which is critical since rabies is nearly 100% fatal once clinical symptoms appear. The vaccine is typically administered post-exposure in combination with rabies immunoglobulin for maximum efficacy.
