Mechanism of action

Beclomethasone dipropionate, the active ingredient in Qvar, is a corticosteroid that suppresses inflammatory responses in the airways by activating glucocorticoid receptors. This leads to decreased production of inflammatory mediators, reduced mucus secretion, and decreased airway hyperresponsiveness. The hydrofluoroalkane (HFA) propellant formulation provides improved lung deposition compared to older chlorofluorocarbon formulations.
