Mechanism of action
PPD contains inactivated tubercle bacilli that are used to diagnose tuberculosis infection. When administered, PPD is taken up by antigen-presenting cells, which process and present the antigens to T-cells, triggering an immune response. This response helps to identify individuals who have been infected with M. tuberculosis.
