Mechanism of action
Propylene glycol is a small organic compound that functions primarily as a hygroscopic agent, attracting and retaining water in the stratum corneum and other tissues. It also serves as a penetration enhancer and preservative in topical formulations. At 0.6% concentration, it provides moisturizing and stabilizing effects in pharmaceutical preparations.
