Mechanism of action
VSL#3 contains eight live bacterial strains (Streptococcus thermophilus, Bifidobacterium breve, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium infantis, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus paracasei, and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus) that colonize the colon and enhance the intestinal epithelial barrier. These strains produce short-chain fatty acids, compete with pathogenic bacteria, and stimulate local and systemic immune tolerance, reducing inflammation and improving gut dysbiosis-related conditions.
