Mechanism of action

The swabstick combines chlorhexidine gluconate, a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent, with isopropyl alcohol to provide rapid and sustained skin antisepsis. Chlorhexidine disrupts bacterial cell membranes and denatures proteins, while the alcohol component provides rapid antimicrobial activity. This combination is used to reduce the risk of infection at injection sites, catheter insertion sites, and other medical procedure sites.
