Mechanism of action

By binding to presynaptic calcium channels, pregabalin decreases calcium influx and subsequently reduces the release of glutamate, norepinephrine, and substance P. This leads to reduced neuronal excitability and pain signal transmission. The drug is effective for neuropathic pain, epilepsy, and anxiety disorders through this mechanism of action.
