Mechanism of action
Physiological irrigating solutions are sterile, isotonic formulations designed to irrigate and protect tissues during surgery. They typically contain balanced electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium) and buffering agents to maintain pH and osmolarity similar to body fluids, preventing cellular damage and maintaining the surgical field.
Approved indications
- Intraoperative tissue irrigation during surgical procedures
Common side effects
- Fluid overload
- Electrolyte imbalance
- Hypothermia
