Paroxetine (paroxetine)
Paroxetine (generic name: paroxetine) is a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) drug developed by Pfizer Inc.. It is currently FDA-approved for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder (PD).
Inhibits neuronal reuptake of serotonin in the central nervous system, presumed mechanism for treating psychiatric disorders.
Paroxetine is a small molecule serotonin transporter inhibitor used to treat various conditions, including depression, social phobia, and myocardial infarction. It belongs to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class and is used to treat several psychiatric and cardiovascular conditions.

Mechanism of action
Paroxetine's mechanism of action in treating major depressive disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder is presumed to be linked to potentiation of serotonergic activity in the central nervous system. This potentiation results from inhibition of the neuronal reuptake of serotonin (5-hydroxy-tryptamine, 5-HT), allowing increased serotonin availability in synaptic spaces. The exact mechanism remains unknown, but the serotonergic enhancement is the basis for its therapeutic effects across multiple psychiatric indications.
