Mechanism of action

Supplemental oxygen therapy works by increasing the fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) delivered to the lungs, which elevates arterial oxygen saturation and partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2). This enhanced oxygen availability improves oxygen delivery to tissues, supporting aerobic metabolism and reducing hypoxemia in patients with respiratory insufficiency or oxygen desaturation.
