Mechanism of action

Oxycodone is a semi-synthetic opioid that activates mu (μ) opioid receptors throughout the brain and spinal cord, inhibiting pain signal transmission and modulating pain perception. This receptor activation also produces sedation and euphoria, which contribute to both its therapeutic effects and abuse potential. It is metabolized hepatically and has a half-life of approximately 3-4.5 hours.
