Mechanism of action
Sulfate ions are poorly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and create an osmotic gradient that increases intraluminal fluid volume, stimulating peristalsis and facilitating stool passage. This mechanism is commonly used for bowel preparation and treatment of constipation without systemic absorption of the active ingredient.
