Mechanism of action
This is a basic physiological intervention rather than a drug with a molecular mechanism. Oral salt and water intake restores sodium, chloride, and fluid losses due to dehydration, diarrhea, vomiting, or other causes. It works by increasing circulating blood volume and maintaining serum osmolality and electrolyte concentrations within normal ranges.
