Mechanism of action
ORS works by providing a balanced mixture of water, glucose, and essential electrolytes that are absorbed in the small intestine. The glucose-sodium co-transport mechanism enhances water absorption even during diarrhea or vomiting. This simple formulation prevents and treats dehydration caused by acute gastroenteritis, cholera, or other conditions leading to fluid loss.
