Mechanism of action
Normal saline (0.9% NaCl) is a physiologically balanced solution that matches the osmolarity of body fluids. When used as a rinse, it provides mechanical irrigation and cleansing without causing osmotic damage to tissues. The solution helps remove mucus, bacteria, inflammatory mediators, and other irritants from nasal, oral, or wound surfaces, promoting clearance and reducing local inflammation.
