Mechanism of action
Neostigmine is a reversible cholinesterase inhibitor that prevents the breakdown of acetylcholine by blocking the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. This leads to increased acetylcholine concentration at the neuromuscular junction, enhancing parasympathomimetic effects and improving muscle strength in conditions characterized by neuromuscular dysfunction.
