Mechanism of action

Fluoride ions penetrate the tooth structure and replace hydroxyl groups in hydroxyapatite, forming fluorapatite, which is more resistant to acid demineralization. The varnish formulation provides prolonged contact time with tooth surfaces, enhancing fluoride uptake. Additionally, fluoride inhibits glycolysis in cariogenic bacteria, reducing their ability to produce acids that cause dental decay.
