Mechanism of action
Placebos are inert substances designed to have no pharmacological effect and serve as a control group in randomized clinical trials. In this Phase 3 study, the metronidazole and amoxicillin placebos allow researchers to measure the true efficacy of the active drug(s) being tested by comparing outcomes against a non-therapeutic control.
