Mechanism of action
Medical-grade honey (typically Leptospermum scoparium honey) has intrinsic antimicrobial activity due to hydrogen peroxide production, high osmolarity, and low pH, which inhibit bacterial growth and biofilm formation. It also reduces inflammation and promotes autolytic debridement, facilitating faster wound healing and tissue regeneration.
