Mechanism of action

Macrogol 3350 (polyethylene glycol) is a non-absorbable polymer that creates an osmotic gradient in the intestinal lumen, retaining water and electrolytes to increase stool bulk and facilitate bowel movement. The added electrolytes (typically sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and sodium sulfate) help maintain electrolyte balance during bowel cleansing and prevent dehydration. This combination is commonly used for bowel preparation before colonoscopy or other gastrointestinal procedures.
