Mechanism of action
Atropine is an anticholinergic medication that blocks the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that causes the muscles in the eye to contract. By blocking this action, atropine causes the pupils to dilate, which reduces the pressure in the eye and can help to treat conditions such as uveitis and glaucoma.
