Mechanism of action
Lipiodol UF (ultra-fluid) is a lipophilic contrast medium composed of iodized ethyl esters of poppy seed oil. It is used in diagnostic imaging to visualize the lymphatic system and liver, and therapeutically as an embolic agent to occlude blood vessels or deliver chemotherapy directly to tumors. The iodine content provides radiopacity for visualization under fluoroscopy.
