Mechanism of action
Lactated Ringers contains sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, and lactate in physiologically balanced concentrations that closely mimic plasma composition. When administered intravenously, it expands the extracellular fluid compartment, restores circulating blood volume, and corrects electrolyte imbalances. The lactate component is metabolized by the liver to bicarbonate, providing mild alkalinizing effects.
