Mechanism of action

Lactated Ringer solution contains sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, and lactate in concentrations approximating plasma. It restores circulating volume in dehydration, hemorrhage, or shock states, and the lactate is metabolized by the liver to bicarbonate, providing mild alkalinizing effects. It is used for fluid resuscitation and maintenance therapy in various clinical settings.
