Mechanism of action
Iron is an essential component of hemoglobin and myoglobin, required for oxygen transport in red blood cells and muscle tissue. IV iron bypasses gastrointestinal absorption limitations, allowing rapid repletion of depleted iron stores in patients with iron deficiency anemia who cannot tolerate or absorb oral iron supplementation. This restores oxygen-carrying capacity and alleviates anemia-related symptoms.
