Irrigation with gentamicin solution
Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to bactericidal activity against gram-negative and some gram-positive organisms.

Mechanism of action
Gentamicin irreversibly binds to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, disrupting accurate mRNA translation and causing misreading of the genetic code. This results in production of non-functional proteins and ultimately bacterial cell death. When used as an irrigation solution, it provides local antimicrobial activity at the surgical site to reduce infection risk.
