Saline-only catheter flush
Saline-only catheter flush is a Small molecule drug developed by TriHealth Inc.. It is currently FDA-approved for Maintenance of central venous catheter patency, Peripheral intravenous catheter patency maintenance, Prevention of catheter-related thrombosis. Also known as: Intervention group.
Saline-only catheter flush maintains catheter patency and prevents thrombosis by delivering sterile normal saline through the catheter lumen without anticoagulant or antimicrobial additives.
Saline-only catheter flush is used in various medical conditions, including breast cancer, arthroplasty, liver cirrhosis, and portal hypertension, as studied in clinical trials on ClinicalTrials.gov. The mechanism of saline-only catheter flush is unknown, according to ChEMBL.

Mechanism of action
This is a mechanical/physical intervention rather than a pharmacological one. The saline solution flushes the catheter to remove blood, fibrin, and other debris that could occlude the line, maintaining vascular access. It relies on the flushing action and the physiological properties of isotonic saline to prevent clot formation and maintain catheter function.
