Mechanism of action
The vaccine contains chemically inactivated (killed) poliovirus particles that cannot cause disease but retain immunogenicity. When administered, these inactivated viruses trigger both humoral (antibody) and cellular immune responses, leading to the production of neutralizing antibodies against poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3. This immune memory protects vaccinated individuals from infection if exposed to wild-type poliovirus.
