Mechanism of action
Hydrocortisone (cortisol) is an endogenous glucocorticoid that acts as an immunosuppressant and anti-inflammatory agent. It binds to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, translocates to the nucleus, and modulates gene expression to decrease production of inflammatory mediators including TNF-α, IL-1, and IL-6. This results in reduced inflammation, suppressed immune cell activation, and decreased vascular permeability.
