Mechanism of action
hCG binds to the luteinizing hormone (LH) receptor on Leydig cells and corpus luteum cells, triggering steroidogenesis and progesterone production. In clinical use, exogenous hCG is administered to support luteal phase progesterone levels in assisted reproductive technology cycles or to treat hypogonadism by stimulating testosterone production in males.
