Mechanism of action

Glycerin is a hygroscopic agent that creates an osmotic gradient in the rectum and colon, pulling fluid into the intestinal lumen. This increases stool bulk and moisture content, facilitating easier evacuation. Additionally, glycerin may provide mild local irritation to the rectal mucosa, further promoting defecation.
