Mechanism of action
Glucocorticoids are steroid hormones that bind to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, translocate to the nucleus, and alter transcription of pro-inflammatory genes. This results in decreased production of cytokines, chemokines, and adhesion molecules, leading to broad immunosuppression and anti-inflammatory effects across multiple cell types including T cells, B cells, macrophages, and neutrophils.
