Mechanism of action

Sevoflurane is a halogenated ether that crosses the blood-brain barrier and modulates neuronal ion channels, primarily potentiating GABA-A receptors and blocking NMDA glutamate receptors. This dual action results in rapid loss of consciousness, amnesia, and analgesia. It is administered via inhalation and is rapidly eliminated through the lungs, allowing quick recovery.
