Mechanism of action
The vaccine contains weakened (attenuated) strains of influenza A and B viruses that are temperature-sensitive and can replicate efficiently in the cooler upper respiratory tract but not in the warmer lower respiratory tract or systemic circulation. This replication triggers both mucosal IgA antibodies and systemic immune responses, providing protection against influenza infection. The live attenuated approach mimics natural infection more closely than inactivated vaccines, potentially generating broader and more durable immunity.
